I had gotten prime with my GameCube as a kid when it launched for Xmas, I remember the hype was at bungie and halo since they revolutionized FPS gaming with their control layout, and heavily inspired all FPS titles after halo (look at FPS titles pre and post halo and you’ll understand what I mean lol) and I was only used to single stick FPS like golden eye and then Metroid prime, so i got used to it. you know, we’ve all experienced it lol, where we are able to finally experience a title that has been praised highly throughout the years but we’ve come late to the party to play it, and once we do, we kinda understand why it received all the praise it did…that itself ends up making us appreciate it EVEN MORE (artificial boost in liking) and then it kinda wears off quickly after awhile lol Yeah lol I feel like OP may have first timers hype. Like, 2D metroidvanias are everywhere these days to the point where small indie teams can give Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night a run for their money, but I could probably count on one hand the number of games I've seen outside the Prime trilogy that are really trying to do the things Prime does. I'll also say that while I think Super Metroid is still the overall best game in the Metroid series, one thing Prime absolutely deserves a lot of praise for is how it's still a game that not many others have been able to iterate or improve upon.

And replaying the remastered version really cemented for me just how solid Prime is and how impressive it is that Retro nailed so many things on their first go it's up there with Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time when it comes to translating the core of a series from 2D into 3D, for sure. Easily a top 10 game for me, could maybe even be a top 5 on a good day. I don't think I'd personally say it's my favorite game or Nintendo's absolute greatest, but it's definitely earned a spot in those conversations. I completely get where you're coming from.
